Veterans Hospital Scandal Exposes Treatment Delays

More information is coming to light concerning the abhorrent conditions at a Phoenix Veteran Administration Hospital. The investigation has now spread – with 26 facilities currently under investigation.

Sadly, VA hospitals have had a tarnished history. Hopefully this latest scandal will lead to desperately needed changes. As experienced Los Angeles Medical Malpractice lawyers, we are committed to helping anyone who has been harmed by the care they received at a VA hospital.

According to reports, earlier this year CNN revealed that 19 veterans died in 2010 and 2011 because of delays in diagnosis and treatment. Making a proper and timely diagnosis is the key to helping patients obtain the care they require and setting them on the path to recovery. Failing to get that diagnosis, or worse – obtaining a misdiagnosis – can lead to serious consequences, even death.

When your medical provider fails to act in a timely manner, as laid out by the standards in his or her field, he or she may be guilty of medical malpractice.

In April, reports revealed that at least 40 veterans died as the results of delays in treatment at a Phoenix VA hospital. These patients had been placed on a secret list that was hidden from officials in Washington. After these allegations came to light, allegations surfaced from several VA hospitals around the country that employees routinely altered scheduling books in an effort to hide waiting times. Additionally, many patients requiring follow-up care were not included in the computerized records, allowing them to slip though the cracks.

With years of experience dedicated to helping patients who have been harmed by medical negligence, we are hopeful that the horrific treatment exposed by this scandal will bring necessary changes.
