Failure to Diagnose Cancer Leads to Medical Malpractice Lawsuit

A former Ohio Congressman – Representative Steve LaTourette has announced that he is planning to file a medical malpractice lawsuit against the federal government. His lawsuit is based on a delay of diagnosis of cancer. He alleges that had he been given the appropriate information in a prompt and timely fashion, he would have had an earlier diagnosis. This in turn could have led to an improved outcome.

Misdiagnosis and failure to diagnose are two of the most devastating problems that can occur when you seek medical treatment from a doctor. When the condition turns out to be cancer, the situation can be made much worse. If your doctor fails to diagnose that you have cancer, or misdiagnoses you with something else, you will not be getting the treatment you need when you need it. Patients have a much higher chance of beating cancer if it is caught in the early stages. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, after a doctor initially failed to diagnose it, you may have a medical malpractice claim on your hands.

According to records, LaTourette had been hospitalized twice in 2012 for gastrointestinal pain and pancreatitis. An MRI scan taken at the time showed a lesion. While the radiologist recommended follow-up, the congressman was never informed of the recommendations or the results. Had he known, he would have sought treatment sooner.

His lawsuit will seek past and future medical expenses, lost wages and compensation for pain and suffering.
